Project One - Process

The object I chose is a retro fridge! There is one in one of my favorite stores back at home and they use it for storage, which I think is really neat.
When I first worked with it, I found that I did the whole thing with the doors closed. Because I want to develop this into a fantasy appliance, I realized I needed to leave it open in order to show what is inside, which is where the "fantasy" part of my project comes in. I'm enjoying working with the tools and developing my skills in Illustrator and am excited to move forward to work with the background once I'm done doing this!

  1. I love the mixture of 3D and 2D that you have so far, it creates a really cool contrast I think. I also think having the refrigerator open for the drawing was really smart because it would look a lot flatter if it was just a regular closed fridge. I cannot wait to see what you add to it.

  2. Hi Sammy! I agree with Maddie that the open image of the fridge is way more dynamic than if it were completely closed. Your lines are also very clean and well done so I look forward to seeing what you do with this in the future!

  3. I like your use of values so far on the main part of the fridge. I think they are very accurate and help to demonstrate a light source. I also agree that the open door adds some more interest and I look forward to hearing how it plays into your concept and vision for this project.

  4. I think you have done a great job so far. I enjoy the sketch look that it has right now, like a blue print. I also agree that you have done a good job creating a 3d effect and I't sure after you add shading and different values it will pop even more.

  5. The dimensions are very clean! I love that you can see inside of the fridge; you have just enough details to see the door and the shelves without too much going on. I look forward to seeing what you do to make this a fantasy appliance! Adding solid colors and gradients will help make the fridge look even more 3D.

  6. I agree with everyone that opening the fridge and using a photo that has a more interesting angle was smart. I think I need to do the same thing for my appliance. Even though the appliance isn't stainless steel, I think adding gradients that make it look like it is, will make it look even more fridge-like.
