Destroy the Icon - Process




After watching Lecture 6, I chose my icon, which "Lunch atop a Skyscraper" by an anonymous photographer. I sized it down in a JPEG file to fit the browser.

    I think that this is a great image to choose. Everyone has seen it before, it is definitely iconic. Do you have any ideas on how you are going to manipulate and change it?

    I love the composition of this image- it has a lot of potential space to work with! I can picture an aerial view of a fairytale scene with a dragon or something super fantastical. I can't wait to see where you go with this image!

  This was my first image. I included a few transparents that I made with masks and collaged them onto a square canvas size.  I developed the first image into the second image by adding a few more layers and removing what I thought was too busy. The concept for this part is images that remind me of my past, whether its my childhood, my adolescence, or the past few years. It is a good mix of many things, and to fill in the empty space I included lyrics to one of my favorite songs, which happens to have to do with time passing. I messed with some blending modes and curated an image that I actually really like.

Open Project

  This is my final image! I decided to add some rays to the "sun" image to give off a feeling of freedom and excitement. My image is inspired by the feelings of returning to some kind of normalcy with the pandemic and the vaccine, and having a summer that feels a little less stressful now that my friends and I have been vaccinated. There seems to be an excitement in the air for our summer, and a freedom that we haven't felt in a while.

Project One - Process

  The object I chose is a retro fridge! There is one in one of my favorite stores back at home and they use it for storage, which I think is really neat. When I first worked with it, I found that I did the whole thing with the doors closed. Because I want to develop this into a fantasy appliance, I realized I needed to leave it open in order to show what is inside, which is where the "fantasy" part of my project comes in. I'm enjoying working with the tools and developing my skills in Illustrator and am excited to move forward to work with the background once I'm done doing this!
